Oculus maintains that virtual reality can be a social experience, so it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that it’s adding new social features, including Facebook integration, to the Gear VR.
The Oculus Video app now features a Facebook Video tab so users can find 360-degree videos to truly take advantage of their fancy headset. From next week, Gear VR owners will be able to connect their Facebook account, so that they can get personalised videos based on the people and Pages they follow.
There are more features coming down the line. Gear VR wearers will be able to like, react and share the videos they watch without having to leave VR.
Oculus is also adding made-for-VR-games to the Gear VR that will let people team up with others they know and play against anyone in the world. From tomorrow, Gear VR users will be able to create a profile and search for friends.
If games aren’t your thing, you can also create rooms to hang out with friends in and watch Twitch or Vimeo video streams. We may never have to be in the same room with other people again – provided the people we want to hang out with own a VR headset.
